Choi Seoukju

"Feeling Alive"

Twenty-two-year-old Choi Seoukju undertook her gender confirmation surgery at Kamol Hospital at the beginning of September 2018. She is from Korea and found herself almost overwhelmed with the preparation the hospital had already put in place even before she arrived.  She felt she was going through a customized experience. And, of course, she was. Once admitted, Choi became even more secure in those feelings.

The design of the hospital reflects in its very architecture the openness and heartfelt support of the staff and physicians. In many ways, advanced surgical and medical techniques combine with the atmosphere of the facilities to allow the patient to understand that everyone at Kamol is invested in each individual's own best outcome. That is certainly what Choi expressed before and after her procedure. As she put it, in fact, “I am living at Kamol Hospital.” She wasn't just being treated. Her expectations were high. And they were fulfilled in every way she thought imaginable.

Already, life as a woman was beckoning her before Choi checked out of the hospital. She used her time in Bangkok to tour the city and sample its food. She realized that these initial excursions were but the first steps she was about to take in a grand new life.  And she was also thankful that those first steps were taken under the care and guidance of medical specialists particularly devoted to understanding her and making possible in reality what she had only dreamed about until recently. Choi's final judgment was “I am so excited and relieved.” That is what happens when hopes are fulfilled.
